Antipode will carry me freely down the stream of free association that began when I first met the Korean dancer and choreographer Namjin Kim.

Namjin Kim has asked me to create a solo piece for him to dance.

By the very distance that separates us, this adventure necessarily represents a shift. A shift in our point of view—that is, the place we observe from.

This question of gaze, as (Michel) Foucault would have us understand it in his

The Order of Things, will be crucial during this creation process.

A (Leon) Foucault’s Pendulum will create the onstage space, linking two poles with its hypnotic oscillations, conditioning our sense of space-time with it’s heavy, slow and infinite pulsing. Meanwhile a mirror offers us a mise en abyme of our own gaze. In this altered space-time, Namjin Kim will develop his powerfully magnetic dance.
